From The Chairman...
Seasons Greetings!
In the desert, we have a calendar, which is different from most other parts of the country. Our year starts in the fall --September and October, and then it winds down in May. Our season has become such a given, that I find myself thinking about the season as the year. So September is the start of our new season, and the 2007-2008 World Affairs Council program is an exciting one indeed.
The speakers scheduled for this season promise to inform and enlighten us on a number of the key topics and issues of our time. The program is listed elsewhere and I encourage you to review what we have in store. The times are indeed turbulent, and it is important to keep up to date on what's happening in the world. Our Program Committee has outdone themselves this year in finding speakers to come and inform us on the most pressing issues of our times. We are also again planning some special events not included in the published program, and you will hear more about that in the late fall.
Our President, Mr. Dinsmore Glenn Jr. (Denny), will continue our journey in taking our program to new heights as we expand our educational services and programs like Academic WorldQuest and our invited student dinner guests from local colleges and high schools. Our mission is education, for students of all ages. You will see great progress under Denny's able leadership.
Please look at the program, and think of which of your friends and acquaintances might be good guests to bring and share this incredible resource. So many friendships are developed and enhanced by the shared experience of the World Affairs Council of the Desert. Bring your friends, and please introduce them to Denny and me and to our other members. I promise to make them feel welcome and to encourage them to come back, again and again.
Our able Administrator, Loretta Clements from Smoketree Secretarial Service, will be taking your orders for dinner tickets as well as new and renewed memberships. So please say hello to her when you call to make or confirm dinner reservations and/or sign up or renew your membership.
So, welcome to the new season! Please come to our events early and say hello at the reception. I'll be happy to see you back, and part of "the most interesting audience in the desert".
Sincerely,

Dr. Ward A. Fredericks
