David Rhode made an excellent presentation and his answers were forthright and balanced. I think Becky Kurtz did an outstanding job as well -- and that is not because she used my two questions.

Outstanding guest speaker. David played it right down the middle - fair, objective, balanced and has a wealth of knowledge. I liked his advice about being "skeptical but not cynical". That's good advice in a day and age where there is far too much cynicism. I also thought the questions - for the most part - were good...very direct. David handled them head-on. He wasn't afraid to give direct answers. In my opinion, he's exactly what most of us want from journalism today - real investigation, honest and factual reporting and no pre-determined outcomes or advocacy positions. He's seeking real answers, not just those that he agrees with. Not enough journalists like him today.

Very interesting presentation. We rather wished that he had gotten to his main points sooner, but he was terrific when he "got going", e.g., there needs to be a check on truthfulness of what is "broadcast" on open social media. The internet makes it possible to send out untruths at the speed of light to the world with no effective way to retract or correct errors and no real negative consequences for the spreaders of falsehoods.

David was an excellent and forthright speaker with the courage to to honestly present his perspective on the personal and political forces behind the policy making decisions of the Administration and propose remedies to restore a more democratic process.

This was my first lecture by WACD, if this is the quality of the speakers I only wish I had started several years ago. David Rohde presented a difficult topic from a fair standpoint. He neither seemed to lean one way or the other but gave honest non-biased answers to questions he was asked. Maybe the day of impartial Journalists reporting the news, not being the news, is not completely over.

The subject was an important one. The rise of opinions being treated as news on social media is a danger to our democracy. The speakers vast experience did a good job of pointing out that we all should revert to the media that abides by objective standards.

Couldn't agree more, Chuck. David Rohde correctly identified the 'Disinformation Crisis' which envelops us as one of the great problems of our times. Where all of this becomes difficult is in identifying and implementing solutions. Our congress is deeply divided on this issue, as it is on many others. Shame, as solutions are needed!

Excellent presenter... clear, articulate, on topic and authentic. I learned a lot in a short time about how to think about "what is the Deep State" and look forward to reading is book.

On all fronts this presentation and subsequent Q&A with David Rohde were outstanding. Indeed the business model for the news media sector has changed for the worse, with too many fact-less, political journalists trying to make their mark. As pointed out, we are plagued with disinformation and an Internet censorship approach by Big Tech that can only compromise our democracy over time. As David pointed out, only the US Congress has the power to draft and pass legislation that would establish new "rules of the road" for the combo of public privacy, liability and non-arbitrary censorship. Very doubtful if the current congressional membership has the insight and resolve to do that. Maybe the mid-terms will make a difference.
