First rate presentation. His reference to the current situation being similar to that in the Pacific in 1937 was chilling but realistic.

And applause to Programs Committee member Patricia Pyle for her clearly-stated, most professional speaker introduction of the season.

This presentation and the accompanying Q&A session were extremely thought provoking and worrisome with respect to the current and future maligned interface between the US and China, with severe global implications. Mr. Chang is well-informed and quite articulate; his insights and viewpoints are to be respected. His indirect challenges to the leadership of our country with respect to adopting a coherent deterrent strategy with China are sound but, unfortunately falling on deaf ears at the current time.

Mr. Chang commented that a succession of bad foreign [and domestic] policies after the Cold War have brought the US into this current and severe global situation. Indeed, the current state of world affairs is rather complex with multiple/concurrent economic, social, financial and military issues to be reckoned with. Let us trust that our country, our allies, and certain international organizations will jointly be up to these challenges to define and effect an unambiguous, objective set of revised foreign and domestic policies leading to a better world order. One can only hope.
