A phenomenal speaker with intimate knowledge of China and international relations. His foreign policy experience provided us with insights into Chinese leadership's thinking and why they make the decisions that radically affect their status as the #2 power in the world. The fact that their leaders have not lived abroad and are traditionally insular in their thinking makes China a very dangerous competitor. They may not fully realize the results of their actions, as Putin also miscalculated the West's response to his Ukraine invasion. While Taiwan is vulnerable, China should not underestimate the world's reaction should they invade.

While the content of the presentation was interesting and prescient, the audio was not properly set and adjusted before the speakers began. In addition it would be a good idea to remind the audience to turn-off their phones; a person at our table kept fiddling with her phone and distracted even more from our ability to focus on the presenter. Overall the presentation was well-attended; perhaps this is an indication that lunchtime speakers are welcome.
