Interesting, but not as in-depth as we were hoping for. Also, his speaking skills need to be improved. It was disappointing that he read most of his presentation.

Will was very knowledgeable and verified some thoughts I have had about the future of Russian power or lack thereof. Putin apparently has made a major miscalculation, and Russia is being punished economically and militarily in ways Putin didn't image.

I thought Mr Pomeranz gave an excellent talk. He expanded on many of the ideas we hear on the news to help us gain perspective on the Ukraine war.

The sound was great!

My comments are both negative. His speaking skills were weak. And he presented no ideas that I wasn't aware of from other sources. If a listener thought his talk was excellent that listener came to the talk with little or no background. A subscriber to the New York Times/Washington Post and/or George Friedman's material would have not learned anything new. If you can get George Friedman as a presenter I would be willing to pay a surcharge.

Jerry,
Thanks for the feedback. Certainly understand your comments.
Although not posted on this blog, I had several in attendance that were very happy with the presentation. I hope the speakers that are scheduled for the remaining dinners and the luncheon will meet or exceed your expectations.
i will ask the Programs Committee to check on George Friedman as a potential speaker in the future.

On balance, Mr. Pomeranz provided us with insights regarding "What Has Russia Lost" no different than readings provided these past twelve months from "The Economist", "The Wall Street Journal", "Washington Post" and "New York Times". So in this respect, we did not gain much.

Given that his expertise is focused upon international and Russian jurisprudence, the Russian constitution, and human rights law - we would have really benefited more if he dwelled upon the ins and outs regarding: (a) potential war crimes committed by Russia's regular and irregular forces in Ukraine and the body of evidence required to support a prosecution effort; (b) the role and responsibility of the United Nations in such a matter, especially given that Russia is a member of its Security Council with veto rights, and the related fragility of UN continuity; (c) the ins and outs of current international sanctions being levied against Russia, and their effectiveness; and maybe (d) the state of play within the Russian legislature and inner circle of oligarchs for or against the current Russian strategy (brute force with overwhelming casualties and equipment losses).

Unfortunately, the speaker skimmed over (a) and (b) and missed (c) and (d).
