A Cornerstone of WACD’s Education Initiatives
The Mission of the Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) program is to inspire high school students to develop a deeper
understanding of global affairs and increase their awareness globally.
Academic WorldQuest is a national, team-based academic competition administered by the World Affairs Councils of America. More than 30 local councils participate annually, engaging over 3,000 students nationwide in competitions covering international affairs, current events, geography, history and culture. The World Affairs Council of the Desert (WACD) has hosted AWQ since 2005, when the program was founded locally by Charles and Priscilla Porter.
Nine High Schools participated in the 2026 Charles and Priscilla Porter AWQ competition with Xavier College Prep advancing to the finals in Washington, D.C.
The 2027 Academic WorldQuest Competition is scheduled for February 4, 2027.
